Continuing Education Units ( CEU ) We are pleased to be able to offer CEUs (continuing education units) to all workshop participants at no additional cost. Increasingly, business, industry, and professional associations are requiring their constituents to return to school to maintain a high level of currency in their field. The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a system that documents participation in non-credit courses. A Uniform Unit for the Measurement of Non-Credit Continuing Education Programs, the CEU is granted for recognition of the efforts of individuals who participate in activities that otherwise do not generate college credits. CEU CREDIT In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Council on Continuing Education Units, as well as The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, individual CEU's are computed on the basis of one unit for each ten contact hours of participation in:
Units are recorded to one decimal point. Thus a program meeting for a total
of 14 hours would carry 1.4 CEU's.
PROGRAM CRITERIA To qualify for awarding CEU's, according to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the program must meet the following criteria:
The number of units will be determined by the number of contact hours spent in a formal learning environment. This does not preclude the consideration of field trips, laboratory assignments, and other appropriately related experiences. The Bottom Line So how many CEUs will I get if I attend this workshop? If the workshop meets for one day, and we are actively involved in educational activities for ten hours that day, 1.0 CEU will be granted. If the workshop meets for several days, and we are actively involved in educational activities for thirty six hours, 3.6 CEUs will be granted. In the case of a workshop that extends to half of a month or more, CEUs can be as high as 12 or more units.
